When opening the editor for the first time, there's a lot of stuff to see. As such, you must learn how to navigate the editor well.
If you look at the video on the right, you'll see a variety of buttons and different sections:
The top area has miscellaneous tools, like undo, redo, and editor settings.
The left side has buttons for playtesting levels, which is a topic for later.
The right side has buttons for editing objects, which is discussed in the next guide.
The bottom area has buttons for placing objects, which is the topic of this guide.
If you want to move around inside a level, tap/click and drag inside the empty space at the center. You may also use the slider at the top to move around faster.
The Zoom buttons let you zoom in and out. They're found on the left side, just above the "Build" button.
This is where you can find objects to place.
Objects are the building blocks of every Geometry Dash level. They are organized into lots of different tabs, which you’ll learn more about in later guides. They also have different purposes and different properties you can use.
To place an object, click on its button in the Build tab, then click anywhere in the editor space. If you click on an object while in this tab, you'll be sent to its location so you can place more of it.
You'll notice four buttons in the bottom right of the screen: Swipe, Rotate, Free Move, and Snap. These are important tools for placing objects, as you'll see later on.
The Swipe button is the only one which works while in the Build Tab. When enabled, it lets you place multiple objects by clicking and dragging on the screen. You cannot move around in the editor by clicking and dragging while Swipe is enabled.
This is where you can change an object’s location. Click on any object to select it. Selecting objects lets you modify their properties after you've placed them down.
While selecting an object and focusing on the Edit tab, you can use the arrow buttons to change its location, the rotate & flip buttons to rotate or flip it, and the scale buttons to change its size.
Swipe lets you select multiple objects at once while you're in the Edit tab.
Rotate lets you freely rotate objects, just like the "Free" button in the Edit tab.
Free Move lets you move selected objects by clicking and dragging. While this is enabled, you can use Snap to align these objects with the grid.
Use the Copy and Paste buttons to copy and paste any selected objects. This also lets you copy objects from one level to another.
Click the De-Select button to stop selecting every object you have selected.
This is where you can remove objects you don’t want. Click on any object to delete it instantly while in this tab.
Swipe now lets you delete multiple objects while clicking and dragging.
You can also use the trash button to delete any objects you have selected. There is a square one in the Delete tab, and one at the top of the editor which works while in any tab.
